Hugo Bertrand is the founder and CEO of chic&basic, a hotel chain that was born 20 years ago in Barcelona. Bertrand, who comes from a family dedicated to the textile industry, entered the world of hospitality inspired by Oriol Regàs, an iconic businessman from Barcelona's Gauche Divine who was married to his mother. Bertrand created chic&basic with the vision of combining ‘chic’, i.e. design and central locations, with ‘basic’, focusing on quality and comfort without excessive luxury. Under his leadership, the chain has grown to several hotels in Spain and Portugal, with plans for international expansion. In 2018, Hugo and his family acquired 100% of the chain and launched a rebranding process that consolidated the brand's ‘Playful Stays’ identity. His business approach combines creativity and hotel management, always maintaining a bold and transgressive vision.
