After achieving international recognition together with Enric Miralles with projects such as the Igualada Cemetery, Carme Pinós founded her own studio in 1991. Her projects include, for example, the complex in the historic centre of Barcelona comprising the Plaça de la Gardunya, the Massana Art School and the rear façade of the Boqueria Market. She has received numerous awards and mentions, the most recent being the Prat de la Riba Prize 2023, the Gold Medal 2022, the Arnold W. Brunner Prize 2022, and the National Architecture Prize 2021. During all these years, Carme Pinós has combined her activity as an architect with teaching, being a guest lecturer at prestigious universities such as UC Berkeley and Harvard Graduate School of Design. Carme has participated in countless international exhibitions and her work can be seen at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MOMA in New York.
The studio, founded and led by Carme Pinós, has been developing outstanding national and international commissions for more than 20 years, having built, among other countries, in Mexico, Austria and France, in very different contexts, settings, programmes and scales. The studio's work capacity covers a wide typological range from urban planning, parks, bridges, promenades, office towers, cultural and sports centres, universities and schools, to housing and furniture design. In each proposal they share the same way of understanding the world and architecture, where common sense and responsibility must prevail. All their projects are developed around a strong and simple conceptual scheme, conceived and permanently revised by Carme Pinós and appropriated by all the parties involved. All phases of the commission are given equal importance, from the initial sketch to the last detail.
