Izaskun Chinchilla holds a PhD in Architecture from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). She is Professor of Architectural Practice at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Since 2001, she has led her own practice, developing architectural projects, exhibition design and art installations that integrate ecology, care and citizen participation.

Her practice has pioneered temporary architecture as a catalyst for urban transformation, with a particular focus on circular economy principles and processes that actively involve users in the design and construction of public space. She collaborates with institutions, public authorities and civil society organisations across Asia, the Americas and Europe on urban regeneration projects centred on wellbeing and community building.

Chinchilla combines professional practice, research and teaching to promote fairer, more sustainable cities. She is the author of La ciudad de los cuidados (Catarata, 2021) and Los barrios del buen vivir (Catarata, 2026).

For each project, the studio brings together a tailored interdisciplinary team, working with regular collaborators across fields including sociology and citizen participation, energy assessment and certification, landscape architecture, product design, marketing and institutional communication, graphic design, circular economy, art curation and placemaking.

The studio has completed major projects at a range of scales, including the Organic Growth Pavilion in New York (2015), Clementina coworking space for Utopicus (2018), interventions for Concéntrico 8 (2022), Connective Nature for Finsa (2022), Bogadji Lounge in Korea (2023), Terrazza Ecohousing in Orihuela for Somium Properties (2024), the Levedad y Denuncia Pavilion in San Sebastián (2025), and the Flamenco Essence Pavilion for Dubai Design Week (2025).

The practice focuses on optimising the environmental performance of architecture, public space, installations, art and cultural projects, using innovation as a catalyst. Public engagement and social participation are fundamental pillars of its approach.
