Maria is an architect (ETSA Barcelona) and master in design business management (IE business School + RCA London). After several years working as an architect-designer, in early 2014 she entered the world of product design and business attracted by the challenge of combining digital design tools with craftsmanship. Since then she leads Atelier MEL, a multidisciplinary team of design professionals working at the intersection of design and art to conceptualize and materialize complex artistic installations. Based in Barcelona, Atelier MEL today develops projects all over the world.
Since early 2014, Atelier MEL has been dedicated to the creation of unique artworks that work at the intersection between art and digital design technology. Based in Spain, its multidisciplinary team of designers and artisans work hand-in-hand to create unique art installations in projects around the world. At its inception, Atelier MEL embarked on an in-depth study of artisanal glass techniques to create a set of modular collections of illuminated three-dimensional mosaics. This was the first step towards developing the ability to conceptualize, design and build unique art pieces in a variety of different materials. As experts in geometry and fabrication, Atelier MEL collaborates with architects and interior designers to close the chain of the process that links a complex artistic concept with its materialization, reaching new heights of creativity, efficiency and quality.
