Daniel Ibáñez is a Spanish architect and urban planner and Doctor of Design from Harvard University GSD, Director of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). His professional, research and academic focus is on the architectural and urban implications of advanced timber construction. He is building the tallest timber-framed social housing building in Spain and is co-author of the book Wood Urbanism: From the Molecular to the Territorial (Actar, 2019). He is also a Senior Urban Advisor at the World Bank, advising governments and international institutions on wood-based housing and urban development.
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is a research, training, production and communication centre located in Barcelona, with 22 years of activity. Its aim is to lead the mission to imagine the future habitat of our society and build it in the present. IAAC follows the digital revolution at all scales to push the boundaries of architecture and design and address the challenges faced by humanity. IAAC is an experimental and experiential centre where people learn by doing, through a testing methodology that promotes real solutions.
