Architect from New Zealand with an honours degree from the University of Auckland. She moved to London, where she worked in studios such as Zaha Hadid, Block Architects and Adjaye Associates, collaborating on projects such as art galleries and the design of bars and restaurants. In 2003 she moved to the USA, where she worked with Peter Marino Architects on luxury retail and restaurant design projects around the world. In 2007 she moved back to New Zealand, where she founded Studio Bergendy Cooke and focused on residential and hospitality projects throughout the country, until 2014, when she moved to Barcelona and continued working on hotel projects in her native country, throughout Europe and, recently, in Morocco. Her work has been published extensively in New Zealand architectural publications and magazines, and has won awards such as 'HOME of the year New Zealand 2021'.
In 2008, after 10 years working in Europe and North America, Bergendy Cooke founded a studio in her native New Zealand, drawing on her experience in world-renowned studios such as Zaha Hadid Architects and Adjaye Associates (London) and Peter Marino Architects (New York). Currently located in Barcelona and with a team in New Zealand, the studio continues to work on projects around the world, under the philosophy that a project is not just a building, but an inhabited sculpture that lasts over time. The studio creates innovative and refined solutions through a rigorous process based on the client's wishes and the research of materials chosen for their durability. Bergendy creates unique works that are a response to their location and the culture that surrounds them, inspired by local culture and history.
